An article written in 2001 on ScientificAmerican.com states that New Orleans could get hit by a hurricane and flooded in 20ft of water.

A major hurricane could swamp New Orleans under 20 feet of water, killing thousands. Human activities along the Mississippi River have dramatically increased the risk, and now only massive reengineering of southeastern Louisiana can save the city

So my question is with hindsight if there was a select few that could have foreseen what has happened, why wasn’t any extra defence barriers erected or any training of evacuation procedures put into place?

It seems that the American government feel that the US citizens of New Orleans are 2nd class as the first to be evacuated were foreigners in the cover of darkness.

Since when does it matter what race or country you are from, when there are people dying and sick around you, surely they should have priority.

I have been using Google Earth for a while now and some of the features are great. The only problem that i have seen with Google Earth is the images are not in real time, but that is where the Google Earth community come in, the members there are constantly looking over Google earth and posting overlays to keep things upto date.

One good and recent example i found on GoogleBlog is the change in New Orleans.
New Orleans Superdome before
New Orleans Super bowl - before Katrina

New Orleans Superdome after
New Orleans Super bowl - after Katrina

I will be posting more overlays in the future.
